There are people with a fascination for vintage items. In the present case simple techniques can transform new things to old. You need to procure some crackle paint for the purpose. Many people have been employing this painting technique.

This manner of painting can make a wall look slightly older. The materials you are going to need will be: drop cloths, roller and roller cover, latex satin wall paint, crackle medium, paint brush for latex paint and masking tape.

First, you need to cover the wall with a base coat of latex paint. Let the paint dry at least for the overnight. As far as base coat goes, you may chose to have a satin finish. This allows the walls to finally reflect an additional color. Crackle paint is available in gallons or pints as per requirements.

When the item at hand is small, like say a picture frame or a flowerpot, you could straightway apply the crackle in one go. While handling the walls, you should follow different technique, rather than applying crackle directly. Using the masking tape, cover certain area that you would like to be left in their present state and shape. Then apply the crackle, using a roller or a brush, as per the area to be covered.

You must cover the edges of walls before applying paint with rollers. Give at least thirty to sixty minutes for the paint to get dried. Before the crackle gets dried, you have to keep paint ready for topcoat application. If the finish gets too dry, a second coat will be required. There are two ways of applying topcoat comprising of latex satin paint.

When you like to get larger cracks, you should be using a paintbrush, but for getting randomly positioned smaller cracks you need to use sea sponge. Using a brush for walls with large surface area gives effective results. Keep in mind that application of this kind of paint isn’t all that easy.

You may choose to start with your paintbrush from any end of the room. The way to getting an excellent finish is to apply crackle, allow it to dry and using a paintbrush quickly apply only one coat of paint.

It helps to start from the ceiling and reach for the floor and having thus finished one wall, move to the next one. As you get a hang of it, you may get smarter ideas, but do spare time to go thru the instructions as provided by the manufacturer.
